ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Starting in 2024, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) will take over the Artistic Direction of the renowned Musikwoche Hitzacker for five years. Titled, aus Leidenschaft (Out of Passion) the festival's 38th edition will reflect the MCO's own passion for music and their wish to engage in an active dialogue with audiences and the festival itself.
In this concert titled Zwischen Welten und Kriegen (Between worlds and wars), Alina Ibragimova and her long standing duo partner Cédric Tiberghien present two contrasting compositions from France: Claude Debussy's only violin sonata, the composer's last work, finished in 1917, and Ernest Chausson's Concerto for violin, string quartet and piano, which premiered in Brussels in 1892 and became a sensational success at its Paris premiere a few months later. The programme is complemented by Johannes Brahms' second String sextet, which earned him widespread public recognition as a composer of chamber music.
