ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Starting in 2024, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) will take over the Artistic Direction of the renowned Musikwoche Hitzacker for five years. Titled, aus Leidenschaft (Out of Passion) the festival's 38th edition will reflect the MCO's own passion for music and their wish to engage in an active dialogue with audiences and the festival itself.
More than 200 years since W. A. Mozart completed his fourth string quintet – a work that exposed the complexities of the then newly emerging genre of chamber music – the MCO's virtual reality work Future Presence I: Mozart String Quintet highlights the ever-evolving sphere of classical music. In this discussion and concert, titled Zwischen Realitäten (Between Realities) audiences take part in a discussion of the differences between digital and live forms of presentation.
Walking around the performing musicians, aided by a VR headset, you can get closer to the individual players than you could have ever imagined. Sit on the violinist's lap, feel the violoncellist breathe, check out how the viola's sound changes when stand right next to it. And experience how the powers of Mozart's two-dimensional score and the MCO's high-dimensional digital representation meet with surprising ease and completeness.
Our VR installation will be shown in Hitzacker during four days of this year's Musikwoche (7th - 10th of March, location and hours to be confirmed).
