June 2024
The 2024 Ojai Festival is curated by Mitsuko Uchida, this year's festival music director. Blending the characteristic Ojai mix of old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, we're excited to be a part of this curated journey. As a guest artist, the MCO can be experienced in different formations, with programmes all featuring works close to Mitsuko Uchida and the American musical landscape.
All taking place at the Libbey Bowl, our first concert with Mitsuko Uchida features works by Stravinsky, Webern, Schönberg and Mozart. The following day a morning concert focuses on contemporary composers, Zorn, Mazzoli, and Adams. In this smaller formation, focus is drawn to the accordion, performed by Ljubinka Kulisic, and double bass, performed by Rick Stotijn. In the following evening program the MCO and Mitsuko Uchida grace the stage again with Debussy's timeless Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Saariaho's ethereal Lichtbogen, Salonen's Elegy (from Kínēma) and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 27. The weekend concludes again with the MCO under Mitsuko's direction, with Haydn's Symphony No. 46 and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17.
