ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The 2024 Ojai Festival is curated by Mitsuko Uchida, this year's festival music director. Blending the characteristic Ojai mix of old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, we're excited to be a part of this curated journey. The diverse programme enables audiences to experience the MCO in different formations, all featuring works close to Mitsuko Uchida and the American musical landscape.
The programme mixes modern and classical. Opened by Stravinsky's major miniature, Fanfare for a New Theatre, a piece which was originally composed for the grand opening of the New York State Theater. Two works that showed changes in compositional approach follow, Webern's Five Movements for Strings and Schönberg's Chamber Symphony No. 1. Closing the program with a look at the classical period, is Mozart's celebrated Piano Concerto No. 22, known for its artistic brilliance and emotive depth.
