ABOUT THIS CONCERT
With sounds from Folk, Jazz and Klezmer, the Jaan Bossier Quartet takes its audience on a journey through the land of emotions, sometimes lively, sometimes melancholic. Jaan Bossier's music is inspired by literature; it tells stories of encounters with the familiar and the unknown.
Belgian clarinetist Jaan Bossier is the initiator of the quartet and composes its music. He is a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, a clarinetist with Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, and a professor of chamber music for wind instruments at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt. As a solo clarinetist, he is a regular guest with, among others, the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam. Megumi Kasakawa (viola) plays in Ensemble Modern. She grew up in Fukui (Japan), regularly performs in Europe and Asia, and has received various awards. Megumi Kasakawa frequently teaches masterclasses in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, and participates in the Ensemble Modern’s education projects.
Gwen Cresens, also from Belgium, plays accordion and bandoneon and is an arranger and composer. Gwen has collaborated with Luciano Pavarotti, Stephan Eicher, and Wannes van de Velde, and has also performed with renowned classical orchestras such as the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Axel Ruge (double bass) was a scholarship holder at the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic before holding solo positions in Copenhagen and with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne. He regularly performs with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and teaches double bass at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.
