April 2024
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra is curating a school festival in Berlin for the first time, centered around the theme of "Heimat." School classes from Berlin and the surrounding area have been invited to actively participate in and contribute to this inaugural festival.
The festival, titled Welcome Home! A Festival about finding the place where you belong, has been designed for students aged 13 to 19 years. Through concerts, an art exhibition, readings, and various workshops, the students will delve into what home and belonging mean to themselves and others. In addition to inspiring young people to engage with music, the festival aims to promote mutual understanding and strengthen appreciation and respect for diversity in society.
Participation is free of charge, but prior registation is madatory. Interested teachers and schools can request more information and register per email: heimat@mahlerchamber.com
The first concert of the festival, on the 17th of April is open to the public and free of charge. The concert is ideal for families and promises to be an insightful experience for adults too. We look forward to welcoming audiences aged 11 and over. The moderation and the subsequent discussion format will be translated into German sign language. Prior registration is required, here. For groups of 10 or more, please email: heimat@mahlerchamber.com
