ABOUT THIS CONCERT
This concert features Mozart’s piano concertos no. 19 & 20 with Mitsuko Uchida directing the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from the keyboard. The two concertos are regarded as the works within which Mozart developed his symphonic piano concerto style where the orchestra is assigned a more emancipated part next to the solo piano. Between the two concertos, the MCO strings play Mozart’s Divertimento K. 137 lead by the MCO concertmaster.
Mitsuko Uchida and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra collaborated together for the first time on a Spain and Portugal tour in 2013. This first collaboration inspired the mutual wish to continue and further develop the Artistic Partnership. With this tour, the legendary pianist and the nomadic orchestra kick off a long-term collaboration focused on Mozart’s piano concertos.
