March 2025
Paris in the 1920s experienced one of the most exciting times in its history. Europe was recovering from World War I, and the Parisian intelligentsia demanded and expected new approaches to music and other art forms. A general feeling of having to "seize the day" characterized this decade and was also reflected in the amazingly diverse musical production of those years. Louis Vierne, Francis Poulenc, and Igor Stravinsky, whose works feature on this tour's program, all lived and worked in Paris during these immensely inspiring times.
Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and the MCO have been close musical partners for many years. Together, they have produced several internationally acclaimed CDs of all the Beethoven and some of the Mozart piano concertos. In the first days of March 2025, we shared the stage of Musikwoche Hitzacker, a well-established festival in northern Germany whose artistic direction the MCO took over in 2024. We continue this musical dialogue during this tour, which will lead us to Wigmore Hall in London, the Flagey in Brussels, and the Philharmonie de Luxembourg.
