ANTON BRUCKNER: Symphony no. 8 in C minor WAB 108
- Conductor Bernard Haitink
- Lucerne Festival Orchestra including Mahler Chamber Orchestra
ABOUT THIS CONCERT
In August, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra returns to its annual summer residency in Lucerne. In this concert, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra – with the MCO as the core of the ensemble – celebrates conductor Bernard Haitink’s 50th anniversary and 50th appearance in Lucerne. When Bernard Haitink conducted the LFO for the first time last year, this “debut” was immediately met with critical acclaim.
The symphonies of Anton Bruckner, in addition to those of Gustav Mahler, were pillars of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra’s repertoire under Claudio Abbado. In this programme, the LFO and Bernard Haitink perform the 1890 version of Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony in C minor.
