ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra joins forces with pianist Yuja Wang on an extensive tour to nine European cities in ten concerts.
The MCO is no stranger to the Beethoven piano concertos: having worked intensively with pianist Leif Ove Andsnes on these pieces during their award-winning Beethoven Journey, the orchestra performs two of these concertos, this time with Yuja Wang leading from the piano.
This concert also sees the MCO continuing its tradition of performing orchestral works – in this case, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite – led by its concertmaster.
This tour marks the second collaboration between the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Yuja Wang. Their first project together, which took place in April 2010, included performances of Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto and his Paganini Rhapsody under the direction of Claudio Abbado – one of which was recorded on the Deutsche Grammophon label.
With this concert, the MCO makes its debut in the Auditorium of Paris’ prestigious Fondation Louis Vuitton. Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, this spectacular building has been a meeting place for different artistic disciplines since 2014 and shares the MCO’s vision of fostering international artistic dialogue.
