ABOUT THIS CONCERT
At the heart of this project is Ludwig van Beethoven's timeless masterpiece, the Violin Concerto. This concerto is widely regarded as one of the greatest works ever composed for the violin, and Pekka Kuusisto's interpretation adds a fresh and innovative perspective to this beloved piece. The last time MCO played the piece in Bonn with Pekka back in 2016, the conductor’s podium unexpectedly stood empty. Pekka Kuusisto and MCO concertmaster Matthew Truscott jumped in to lead the orchestra in unforgettable performances of the concerto and his seventh symphony.
In addition to Beethoven's Violin Concerto, the program also features Three Studies from Couperin by Thomas Adès. This contemporary composition, inspired by the works of François Couperin, showcases Adès' unique musical language and inventive approach to composition. The Three Studies offer a refreshing contrast to the Beethoven concerto, allowing the audience to explore different soundscapes and musical possibilities.
At the Beethovenfest in Bonn, the audience is offered the opportunity to get a different point of view on the MCO's special way of making music. Through the VR installation series Future Presence, an orchestra performance can be experienced from a never-before-seen proximity.
