ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Mahler Chamber Orchestra musicians perform a virtuoso chamber music programme of Bach, Berio and Brahms.
The virtuosic Berio Sequenzas allow both musician and audience member to experience an exploration of technical, tonal, and musical possibilities. The Sequenza I for flute and the Sequenza IXa for clarinet were also performed during the orchestra’s first US residency in Ojai, California in June. This time they are sandwiched between three of Bach's three-part Inventions arranged for string trio. Following the Bach and Berio, MCO string players take the stage for the beautiful Brahms String Sextet, no. 1 op. 18 in B-flat major, scored for two violins, two violas, and two cellos.
