ABOUT THIS CONCERT
An afternoon chamber concert of Ligeti and Ravel presents listeners with the opportunity to hear MCO musicians in a virtuosic chamber music setting, as well as violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja performing a duo-sonata with American cellist Jay Campbell.
With a sparse compositional style, Ligeti creates an expressive musical palette for the listener in his Six Bagatelles, transcribed by the composer for wind quintet from his original piano work of Twelve Bagatelles written for piano.
From the charmingly ascetic harmonies of Ligeti the programme moves on to Ravel’s pared-down Sonata for violin and cello, a composition with fascinating counterpoint and emphasis on melody.
