Noémi - profile

Noémi Makkos

When and where was your first concert with MCO?
It was in Bari, in Italy (lovely city), Schumann 1. and Beethoven 7. I was very excited and nervous at the first rehearsal because it was my first project on trial with MCO. The concert still ended up being a lot of fun, I enjoyed a lot the sound of the orchestra and managed to ease into playing.

What do you need to feel at home whilst on tour?
I like to unpack my travel bag in the hotels and put everything in the wardrobe if we stay for longer than one night. That way I don't feel like I'm living out of a suitcase!

What do you do before a performance?
I like to take a little nap in the afternoon if it's possible. (Actually I like to do that even if I don't have a performance...)

If you could play another instrument what would it be?
The trombone.

The most inspiring composer:
Bach. He basically already knew everything.

Noémi Makkos was born in Budapest in 1992. She started playing the trumpet at the age of eight, and her musical education continued at the St. Stephan Conservatory in Budapest. From 2010, she studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum under Prof. Hans Gasch, graduating in 2014 with distinction. Following this, she pursued her masters studies at the Hochschule for Music in Karlsruhe with Prof. Reinhold Friedrich and at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Prof. Laura Vukobratovic.

She is a laureate of various competitions in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Austria. Her extensive orchestral experience includes performances with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the European Youth Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Karajan-Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker, where she received lessons from Principal Trumpet Gábor Tarkövi.

Before joining the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in 2019, Noémi played as deputy principal trumpet with the Essener Philharmoniker and the WDR Funkhausorchester in Cologne. She also plays trumpet with the Staatskappelle Berlin and is a teacher at the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
