Rik Willebrords

Communications Manager

What do you need to feel at home whilst on tour?
A sturdy pair of walking shoes, I like discovering new places on foot.
The first piece of music you fell in love with:
The Brahms Requiem. We performed it in my first year in the conservatory and the piece just keeps circling back into my life.
What makes a “perfect” concert?
A perfect concert is a concert where imperfection is welcomed. To me, this means the power of the moment takes over and a wrong note, awkward sound or slipped finger only contributes to the uniqueness and emotion of that exact moment. This is why we still seek the magic of live music.

Originally from Belgium, Rik obtained his Master of Arts (Classical singing) from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Antwerp. Feeling the need to further explore his fascination for the operatic repertoire, he enrolled at the MUK in Vienna.

After several years of freelance singing in several opera houses, theatres and festivals throughout Europe, Rik decided to shift his attention. From 2019 to 2022 he led the Customer Experience team at Journi, an Austrian startup.

As of February 2022, he is combining his knowledge of classical music with his skills for communication in his new role as Communications Manager for the MCO.
