ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Broadcast Date:
21 December 2016 at 20:05 on WDR 3
On this tour, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra pays tribute to one of classical music’s most notorious revolutionaries, Ludwig van Beethoven. Since MCO Artistic Partner Teodor Currentzis unfortunately had to
withdraw from this tour due to illness, the MCO will be led by violinist
Pekka Kuusisto from the violin, conductor Michael Wendeberg (for Schönberg's Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte) and MCO concertmaster Matthew Truscott.
This programme closely adheres to the theme of Beethovenfest Bonn 2016: Revolution. In addition to Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and Symphony no. 7, this concert includes Schoenberg’s Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte, a work alluding to Beethoven’s French contemporary.
The MCO last appeared at the Beethovenfest Bonn in 2014 with pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and their award-winning Beethoven Journey, which featured performances of the complete Beethoven piano concertos in three concerts.
